Wine has always existed, it has accompanied the history of man since ancient times. It is a symbol of conviviality, a perfect complement to the most diverse foods, the companion during relax moments with other people or alone. It makes the mind lighter and it’s good for the body: its beneficial properties are now known to everyone. But have you ever considered the idea of experiencing the effects of wine therapy? The experience must be done at least once in a lifetime.
Wine therapy, or beauty treatments based on wine (and grapes), is one of the latest trends in the world of Spas and Wellness. Discover with Serena 1881 what the benefits of this “therapy” are and how to make your own homemade treatment.
WHEN IT BORNS
If you have recently heard about this special therapy and think it’s a recent invention, know that it has very ancient origins: already the Greeks and Romans, centuries ago, used this precious element for wellness treatments. The first spa dedicated to wine therapy was born near Bordeaux, after becoming aware of the detoxifying and toning action of grapes used for various curative treatments. The credit for having believed in this business and focused on this therapy, however, belongs to Mathilde Cathiard and Bertrand Thomas, who, in 1993, inaugurated the first modern Vinothérapie Spa (called Les Sources de Caudalie) in Graves, not far from Bordeaux. The success was immediate and remarkable, in a very short time wine therapy has become one of the new frontiers of well-being and has spread not only in the rest of France but also in many other places in the world: from Italy to Brazil passing through Spain and the United Kingdom.
BENIFICTS OF WINE THERAPY
The benefits are many: ranging from weight loss to anti-stress action, up to purifying effects. Grapes, in fact, rich in polyphenols, have many antioxidant elements. The anti-aging properties of wine are now known to all. In addition, wine has a calming and relaxing effect on the nervous system. The grapes contained in it help in purifying the body, but also in slimming and, in general, in shaping the figure.
Relying on the care of wine means trying to fight the signs of aging, improving skin tone and elasticity, as well as hydration. With wine, the resistance of blood vessels also increases, thus benefiting micro circulation. It should also be borne in mind that not only the grape is used, but everything: the skins, the seeds, the stalk. These elements are obviously subjected to a very particular process, through which, muds, essential oils and creams of various kinds are created. These are perfect for toning, softening the skin and also for treating cellulite, as they exert a beneficial action on the microcirculation. Linoleic acid is the best element present in the grape.
So, here are three perfect treatments to do with wine. The first is perfect when returning from the holidays to revitalize the skin and improving its tone and color: it’s the red grape scrub. To prepare it, you need three tablespoons of brown sugar, a tablespoon of honey, three tablespoons of Cabernet wine, 6 drops of lemon essential oil, which is an excellent draining and anti-cellulite. Mix all the ingredients and apply the mixture on damp skin, massaging it for a few minutes with rotating movements, leave on for a few minutes and voilà. Do not forget to rinse after treatment.
The second is to prepare a purifying soap based on grapes. Take 120g of Marseille soap and grate it. Blend 5 grains of grapes (white or red makes no difference), 90 ml of its juice, 2 teaspoons of grape seed oil, 10 drops of geranium essential oil. Melt the grated soap in a saucepan and mix it with the blended mixture, pour everything into plastic molds greased with olive oil and let it cool. In this way you will obtain wonderful soaps to cleanse your face and body skin, useful for combating wrinkles and cellulite.
The third is a wine bath in the tub. Just fill the tub with hot water and add the grapes. The treatment has an antioxidant and revitalizing effect. During the bath, we also recommend you to light a candle and relax with a Serena1881 Prosecco Rosé, for a complete sensory experience.
